about us
Dan Goode is firmly ensconced in the UK’s creative scene as a trained ceramicist, a craft fair curator, a speaker and a working actor. Dan knows how hard it is as an artist to feel ‘heard’ and this is why he created Making Goode.
Making Goode has a very specific ambition, to help the creative community hone and successfully share their unique voices. To do this designer-makers need to identify:
• Why they make
• What inspires them
• Why they feel compelled to express themselves through a particular medium
• Who they want to reach
• What is unique about themselves and then communicate that uniqueness to the world
At Making Goode we help makers focus on their craft, their ambitions and also root out what it is that is holding them back. When a maker learns to communicate and express themselves fully in everything they do, it is astonishing how quickly people ‘hear’ them.
Making Goode achieves its aims in a number of ways:
Talks and workshops
Dan is a regular speaker for Arts Thread, The Crafts Council, The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and most recently for the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize. He has also spoken for The Design Trust, UKHandmade, The V&A (with Arts Thread), Craft Northern Ireland, Derry Council and numerous UK Guilds. Dan is happy for organisations to contact him about doing talks and workshops.
One-to-one work
With brand and design expert Martyn Allen, Dan Goode works directly with makers to improve their communication skills:
• Working with designer-makers on their creative identity
• Producing promotional literature both printed and online
• Producing logos and maker brand identity
• Evaluating and recreating websites
• Producing photography, both product and lifestyle
• Designing event stands in collaboration with makers
• Drawing experts together to help designer-makers present themselves to the best of their ability
Curation
Dan further expands the reach of designer-makers through his curation for Handmade in Britain. For the past two years he has curated a range of makers under 'Curated by Dan Goode' for Handmade at Kew and Handmade Edinburgh and this year he has added Handmade in Britain 2017 to the list. In 2018 the inaugural Handmade Oxford will join the canon.
Dan welcomes submissions from makers who would like to be considered for curation.
